Take a Photo Instead of Collecting 'Things'

- Posted: Jan 19, 2012

If you have a lot of "things" in your home for sentimental reasons, take a picture.

We all have things we keep for sentimental reasons, whether it's the teddy bear your husband got you or the popsicle house your kids made you. It may be time to de-clutter your home and to help you do so, we have one good idea.

For those items of emotional value that you're willing to get rid of, just take a picture of it instead. You can put the image on your computer and those popsicle creations in the trash. Once you get the images on your computer, you can share them with others, post them on your blog, or even put them on a digital camera frame. (One thing to make sure to do is always backup your photos.)

Don't forget to share this tip with your friends (but make sure to be very tactful :) ).

The Great Garbage Disposal Smell

- Posted: Dec 27, 2011

You use your garbage disposal everyday. You love not having to scrape the food into the garbage first before putting the plates in the sink. Everything about the disposal is wonderful and convenient, except... the smell.

Garbage disposals are great at harboring smells that could peel paint, but we've found a tip that can help reduce or eliminate those nasty odors.

If you love oranges, then you'll love this tip. After you peel your favorite fruit, put the peelings in the disposal instead. This will help reduce or even eliminate the noxious smell coming from the garbage disposal. It may be best to put small pieces of the orange peel into the disposal one at a time, rather than large pieces all at once. Also, remember to remove the sticker first.

Reducing Dust

- Posted: Dec 14, 2011

There's dust every where, trying to clean it up takes time and a few tips. We'll talk about filters, vacuuming, and hiring a professional carpet cleaner.

First, you can purchase small air purifiers for an individual room. However if you want to have your entire home's air cleansed, you'll need to purchase one for each room. There are however filters that you can purchase which are electrostatic filters for your furnace. These types of filters actually use static cling to pull the dust particles out of the air. They come in disposable and reusable.

Regularly vacuuming will help reduce the amount of dust in your home. Dust actually accumulates in the carpet and vacuuming often will remove the dust from the carpet. It may be helpful to turn on your furnace as you dust and vacuum so that some of the airborne particles get pulled into the furnace filter, further cleaning the air. Now the debate of whether to dust the furniture before vacuuming or after vacuuming, we'll discuss some other time.

Calling a professional carpet cleaning company also helps remove dirt and dust out of your carpet. This will help prevent the dust that was on the carpet from flying back into the air as people walk through your home.
